This tutorial demonstrates how to install Paint Shop Pro, and third-party Picture Tubes, Patterns, Brushes, Textures, Masks, Picture Frames, etcetera, into Paint Shop Pro 7 8 9 X XI X2 Photo +’s (and Ultimate’s) main programme folders. (I am currently utilising Windows XP).

Folder Notes Paint Shop Pro 7 8 9 X main program folders are named: Patterns, Gradients and Textures, etcetera; and are therefore easy to locate. Paint Shop Pro XI X2 + folders on the other hand, have not been given names that describe their content; the link below explains Paint Shop Pro XI X2 +’s folder contents - (that are referred to in this tutorial).
Paint Shop Pro XI X2 Photo + (Ultimate) Folder Names Explained Here
Note You will also find my File Locations tutorial helpful - this can be found Here.
Note To see the same yellow folders as displayed below, (from the top menu, illustrated below) click the tiny black triangle, and from the drop-down menu, ensure there is a tick next to Icons.
 |
1/ Close down Paint Shop Pro, then download and save your new picture tubes, (or patterns etcetera), to a memorable folder - for example, My Pictures. Alternatively, if they are on a CD, insert it and locate the file from the CD. If your files are from a CD - once it has been inserted, the file may look like this.
2/ Alternatively, locate your new folder, or file - it may appear like one of the folders below - or it may be a folder with more than one picture tube inside.
The only stipulation is that if they are zipped.
They must be unzipped before Paint Shop Pro will recognise them - my tutorial Here explains how to unzip Windows XP files.

Either way, hover your cursor over the folder - to highlight it - as shown above. (do not click it open). Then right-click it, and from the drop-down menu, select Copy.
Note To copy more than one file/folder, press and hold the Ctrl key - whilst simultaneously left-clicking to highlight your folder, or files.
3/ Now, from the left-side menu, left-click My Computer.
And in the subsequent menu, double-left-click to highlight (and open), local Disc (C:). Or where your main programme files reside.
From the following menu, locate, and double-left-click to highlight, (and open) Program Files.
Then locate and double-left-click to highlight (and open) Jasc Software Inc. Paint Shop Pro X XI X2 +: You are looking for Corel not Jasc
In the subsequent menu, locate and double-left-click (to open) your version of Paint Shop Pro.
Then, depending on the file you are copying, hover your cursor to highlight the corresponding folder, (do not click open). Then right-click the file.
And from the subsequent drop-down menu, select Paste.
Note It is the same procedure for all Paint Shop Pro versions.
After your Picture Tube (or Pattern), etcetera, has been copied and pasted into Paint Shop Pro’s corresponding file; to test it, open Paint Shop Pro, and go to the Picture Tube tool, and your new addition should be there.
4/ Note Although your Selections, Patterns, Masks, Textures, Picture Tubes, Picture Frames and Plugins, etcetera, are transferred - you may need to go further. If you cannot see your newly copied picture tube or pattern etcetera, it needs to be “pointed” in the right direction. This means, Paint Shop Pro has to know where it is.
To do this, read my File Locations tutorial Here.
My File Locations tutorial explains the File Locations dialogue box, and how to prime it to include the necessary files.
For example, when setting it up to recognise Picture Tubes - it will resemble the following example.
And for Picture Frames, it will look like this.
Once the File Locations box has been primed to include the different files (patterns, plugins etcetera), the optimisation procedure does not have to be repeated - unless you reinstall Paint Shop Pro. In future, simply copy all new additions into the corresponding folders - as explained at the start of this tutorial, and they will be recognised and ready to work with.
Tip By priming the File Locations dialogue box, you are able to copy files, (Patterns and Selections etcetera), from different versions of Paint Shop Pro. For example, you can copy files from Paint Shop Pro 8 (or 7), to Paint Shop Pro 9 or X + - in exactly the same way. This is useful as some files are not included in Paint Shop Pro 9 X XI X2 +.
Additional Information For Paint Shop Pro 8 9 X XI X2 + Only When you first install Paint Shop Pro 8 9 X XI X2 + - it creates a folder for you in My Documents, called My PSP Files.
Important Do not delete the My PSP Files folder.
Although you need to install all new files as explained in this tutorial, the My PSP Files folder includes all new additions. It is created to assist you should your PC crash - or you need to uninstall Paint Shop Pro. The best thing to do is to back up the My PSP Files folder, on a regular basis, then, should the worst happen - your new files will remain safe and sound, and ready to reinstall. The folder holds subsequent additions - except plugins - so back up your Plugins folder separately.
